BMW and BMW Mini Footwell Module Fault

Footwell Module

The FRM3 module in BMW/Mini cars is prone to frequent failure, causing various issues throughout the vehicle. Responsible for controlling critical functions such as electric windows, AC/heating fans, and lighting, it receives input from sensors throughout the vehicle. When malfunctioning, it can lead to constant illumination of headlights and taillights, malfunctioning indicators, main beam lights, and interior lights, as well as sporadic failures of electric windows. This issue is widespread across the BMW and Mini range.

Common Faults:
  • Malfunctioning indicators
  • Inoperative hazard lights
  • Headlights remaining illuminated and unable to turn off
  • Taillights remaining illuminated and unable to turn off
  • Main beam not functioning
  • Interior lights malfunctioning
  • Electric windows malfunctioning, may open but fail to close consistently
  • Loss of communication with FRM unit
  • AC/heating fan failure
  • Permanent illumination of maintenance/service light on dashboard

While the footwell module is in a fault state, the maintenance or service light will remain lit continuously. Attempts to diagnose the issue using scan tools may reveal a failure to communicate with the module. However, fault codes indicative of footwell module issues may still be present in other control modules.

Addressing this problem often involves considering purchasing a costly brand-new replacement from the manufacturer. This replacement typically necessitates coding to the vehicle, incurring additional expenses. Despite the high cost, these replacement modules usually come with only a short one-year warranty and are prone to failure due to unresolved factory-level faults.

Opt for our superior solution: the testing and rebuilding of your current BMW/Mini footwell module with a 48-hour turnaround. With our FRM3 repair service, you’ll skip the need for coding upon unit return and enjoy a lifetime* warranty as standard.
