This is a very common problem in the Ford Fiesta (Mk6) that causes the gearbox to get stuck into one gear and sometimes the car will not start. The clutch actuator is fitted to the Durashift EST (Electronic Shift Transmission) gearbox which means during a failure the gearbox will get stuck in a gear, and when you turn the car off and then try to restart you will find that the engine refuses to start.
Ford Fiesta Automatic Gearbox Problems
When this failure occurs, you will see a warning message appear on the instrument cluster that reads ‘Transmission fault’, also a flashing ‘N’ in the gear display or will be blank. The most common fault code of P0810 – Clutch Position Control Error will appear when the car is scanned with a diagnostic tool, which unfortunately cannot be cleared.
Ford Fiesta Clutch Replacement Cost
To resolve the Ford Fiesta Durashift problem, main dealerships often buy an expensive replacement clutch actuator, which will cost extra to have programmed to the car. They also only offer a short one-year manufacturer warranty, and since these failures weren’t corrected at factory level, all new replacements done by them are prone to malfunction.
